Last summer a friend of mine competed in a triathlon. She’s an accomplished athlete, and I was in awe of her ability to enter that kind of competition. However, she also helped me see that you don’t have to be a remarkable athlete to complete a triathlon. In fact, several “beginner” triathlons take place all over the country.

Although my favorite pursuits are outdoor hobbies, I have a crafty side too. I love to scrapbook and I like the idea of doing other crafts, but I don’t consider myself particularly creative. That’s because I come from a family that views people who can draw stick figures with awe. We are not artistically inclined!

My friend recently moved into a new house that’s a fixer-upper. Plenty of things inside the house need work, from the electrical to the plumbing and everything in between. My fingers ached and my back did too. I even got a bit of a sunburn. It’s been so long since I’ve seen the sun, I’d practically forgotten that could happen.

I love basics and a home with some personality, something that's impossible to do with any 'set of furniture'. Warm, inviting and relaxing is what every house needs to make it home. I love the uniqueness of log furniture and clean, modern rustic decor. Its so uncomplicated and has a strong connection to nature. Everyone who knows me well looks in the garden if I don't answer the phone. I refuse to tote the cell to my haven.
